Posted by admin on May 6, 2009

League play may be over for the Snakes, but that doesn’t mean there’s not plenty of summer rugby in the Pacific Northwest.

Open touch sessions will begin on Thursday, May 28th at Hill Jr. High. Play will begin promptly at 7:30pm and last approximately an hour. This is open to anyone that would like to join us. Touch Rugby, also know as bugger ball is an open style of rugby that develops passing and support skills, defense, and base fitness. If you are interested in learning more about the sport, or just want to get in a good workout, this is the ideal platform. For additional information please send an email to this link: Snake River Rugby with your questions and we will promptly respond.

The Summer is also high time for seven’s rugby. The Snake’s are currently actively pursuing entering sides in ORSU’s Annual Roy Lucas Sevens Tournament in Portland, OR on 6/6/2009. The city of Boise will be host to a 7s tournament on June 27th that should see several local sides. And there has been a considerable amount of interest in entering a side in the Cam-Am 7s in Northern Washington on July 13. Seven’s rugby is a fast pace dynamic derivative of union 15s rugby that emphasis speed, discipline, and creativity. This is a great outlet for new players interested in learning the game of rugby. 7s training will be held on 5/14 and 5/21 at 7:30 at Hill Jr. High. Further sessions will be scheduled based on interest and availability so stay tuned for updates. For additional information please send an email to this link: Snake River Rugby with your questions and we will promptly respond.

Snake River is always actively recruiting new players, and there is no better time to feel out the game than the summer. No experience is necessary and summer session is non-committal, so if your time in Boise is only temporary, you are just as welcome at our trainings. For additional information please send an email to this link: Snake River Rugby with your questions and we will promptly respond.

Snakes to Playoffs

April 25th through the 26th marks another trip to the playoffs for SRRFC. This years event will take place in Glendale, AZ. Eight teams from Arizona, Idaho, Oregon and Northern California will vie for their three allotted playoffs spots to advance to the Sweet-16 in Austin, Texas. Two teams represent the PNRFU this year. Portland enters the tournament as the #1 seed with Snake River solidifying the #2. The tournament brackets draws Portland against the #3 seed from Northern California, Diablo Gaels, hailing from the East Bay in San Francisco. Snake River due to the seeding, draws an extremely tough match up against the host team and #1 seed, Tempe. If Snake River should win however, they will be guaranteed a trip to Austin.

Over the last 10 years the Snakes have been to the playoffs more than any other club in the PNRFU. Whether or not they have advanced is another question. This coming weekend the club looks to turn the tide on the “oh-so-close” playoff experience. Previous years have seen losses in the first round by the slimmest of margins. This year an opportunity has been presented to Snake River. With their seeding placing them in an “underdog” type role, one win would alleviate previous missteps.

The goal for Snake River is always a PNRFU title followed by a national championship. Falling short of the PNRFU title Snake River now sets their sights on their final goal. Each team member has practiced and trained extremely hard this season. With a rough start in the fall Snake River went undefeated in the Spring and is focused on continuing their momentum into the playoffs. This years team has proven their resiliency and tenacity every time they have taken the pitch.

We ask all our supporters to keep us in mind this weekend as we continue the honor and pride that Snake River Rugby has established throughout the years.
